For this first Marlo Meets of 2022, I was delighted to spend some time chatting with Luke Swann, founder of New Purpose, where he is on a mission to help children and young people “flourish with purpose”. We talked about Luke’s childhood experiences and how they led him to the important work with young people he is doing today; the importance of science and academic rigour when developing wellbeing practices and experiences; and Luke’s vision for the future where we are all able to flourish and embrace meaning in our lives. Kayleigh-Paige Rees

Such a joy to spend time with my old friend @simonconfino this week. Simon has spent much of his career and life supporting young children through his creativity and passion. Julia is a mindfulness practitioner who works with children and families helping them to tap into their innate magic, to walk a more compassionate path through life. We talk about Julia’s childhood in Northern Ireland during The Troubles and the devastating personal impact that period had on her family. Julia goes on to share how her own healing journey as an adult led her to the incredibly important work she is doing with children today. Victoria Cunningham
Delighted to speak with Victoria the founder of @stretchbodymind and #stretchandplay. A pioneer of yoga in her native Northern Ireland, Victoria was the first to develop yoga programmes for children there over 15 years ago. We talk about the importance of movement and mindfulness to childhood trauma recovery; how yoga and pilates provide safe, non-competitive modalities of movement for children; and holistic solutions to the ongoing childhood obesity crisis. Victoria’s programmes are as suitable for yoga instructors looking for accredited methods to work with children, as they are for parents, teachers, and caregivers looking for new approaches and resources for their wellbeing toolkits.
